The Art of Furniture Art - an exhibition of furniture by the Scottish Furniture Makers Association from 5th to 21st October 2012 at the Lighthouse Gallery in Glasgow.
“The Scottish Furniture Makers Association (SFMA) has a vision of its future as a
progressive group of Scottish designer / makers offering innovative furniture
pieces that are keenly sought after throughout the world. In doing so they are
following a strong Scottish tradition to see oneself as part of the world and not
simply a remote part of it. Such a philosophy has served individuals and business
well in the past and continues to do so today. It has produced some great
achievements in art, education, architecture, and engineering that have gained true
global respect. In coming to Glasgow in 2012 and exhibiting at the Lighthouse the
SFMA is recognising the proud heritage of a city in which many of these
achievements are reflected.

Members of the SFMA are encouraged to offer a professional approach to their
furniture-making incorporating three keys elements:
1. A build quality that is uncompromisingly second to none;
2. Practical and functional pieces;
3. Furniture that can be appreciated as an art form “

Quote from First Minister of Scotland, Alex Salmond
Paul Wheelhouse MSP for South of Scotland read out the follow quote, during his
speak at the private view of The SFMA 10th An. Ex. at Dovecot Studios.

"Scottish design and craftsmanship has a well-earned reputation for quality all
over the world. Having seen for myself some of the work of members of the Scottish
Furniture Makers Association, I can understand why.

"This exhibition will not only showcase Scottish ingenuity and skill, but
demonstrate how this industry has taken centuries-old trades and made them
cutting-edge expressions of twenty-first century drive. I wish them all the very
best"
